This is an unusual two-wheel carriage which would have been pulled by a single horse and has a seat for only one person. It would also have had a hind boot which would have a single seat for a groom. The cariole is similar to a cabriolet.  This type of carriage was a popular and inexpensive way to travel on Norway's roads during the 19^th century.
